Chinese Martial Arts

Tambuli Media Chinese Martial Arts Archive Page

Chinese martial arts represent one of the world’s oldest and most influential systems of physical culture. Developed over centuries across a vast and diverse civilization, these arts encompass thousands of styles, methods, and training traditions. From the powerful striking systems of Southern China and the dynamic kicking arts of the North to the sophisticated grappling methods of Qin Na and the internal disciplines of Taijiquan, Qigong, and Bagua Zhang, Chinese martial arts have shaped the development of combat, health, and self-cultivation throughout Asia and beyond.

The term “kung-fu” is often used as a blanket description for Chinese martial arts, yet it encompasses a remarkable range of systems, philosophies, and training approaches. Some traditions emphasize practical self-defense and combat application. Others focus on health preservation, internal development, meditative practice, or spiritual cultivation. Together, they form one of humanity’s richest bodies of martial knowledge.  Whether expressed through the explosive power of traditional boxing systems, the sensitivity of sticking-hands training, or the refined internal mechanics of Taiji and Qigong, these arts continue to offer valuable lessons for practitioners in the modern world.

Tambuli Media is dedicated to the preservation, documentation, and promotion of Chinese martial arts through books, articles, videos, interviews, and educational resources. Our mission is to help preserve the stories, systems, teachers, and traditions that have shaped these remarkable arts while making authentic information accessible to practitioners, researchers, and enthusiasts worldwide.

The foundation of Tambuli Media’s Chinese martial arts coverage is the work of its founder, Mark V. Wiley. Through decades of training, research, and direct study with traditional masters in the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and China, Wiley has documented a wide range of Chinese martial traditions. His work includes interviews with grandmasters, lineage holders, historians, and practitioners, resulting in a substantial archive dedicated to preserving and transmitting the living heritage of Chinese martial arts for future generations.
